The Real McCoy
Few in the world of spirits are as iconic as Bill McCoy, the hero of rum runners, the man who managed to evade American control for so long during Prohibition, bringing to the States from Barbados a fine rum that, unlike his peers, he did not adulterate with chemical dyes or cheap alcohol, thus earning himself the name The Real McCoy. In 2013, Bailey Prior, a young film producer, came across a documentary about Bill McCoy and, struck by the path of rum, decided to create a product without adulteration, just like his favourite. He got in touch with Master Distiller Richard Seale of Foursquare Distillery and the project quickly took shape. Real McCoy rum is made from high quality Blackstrap molasses and pure Barbados water, using a copper pot still and column distiller, and then aged in traditional American oak ex-Bourbon barrels.
