Barboursville

In a region destined to viticulture by history, in 1976 Gianni Zonin realized the dream that belonged to Thomas Jefferson, the third American president, giving life to a large wine estate on the East Coast that covers an area of ??500 hectares, 90 of which are vineyards.

Barboursville Vineyards is also home to the refined Italian restaurant “Palladio” and the historic cottage “the 1804 Inn”, a sought-after destination for a dream holiday among the vineyards.

Barboursville with its 70 hectares of vineyards, where the grape cultivation is monoculture, offers a very limited habitat resulting in a poor microbiome. For this reason, it is important to balance the vine-covered area with other areas for different uses.

There are in fact 125 hectares of forest, mostly composed of oaks and liriodendron trees. There are also 60 hectares of pasture, which are grazed by many wild deers, rabbits and turkeys.

72 hectares of clearing, which is used for haymaking and it has never been fertilized or weeded since 1990, is covered by a mixture of native flowers and herbs.
