Brancaia Chianti Classico is a Tuscan still red that first appeared in 1981, when the Swiss Widmers purchased a ruined farmhouse nestled in the hills of Castellina in Chianti, in the province of Siena. They settled in the vineyards surrounding the Brancaia estate and after just two years obtained their first major national recognition: their rise culminated with the purchase of two more sumptuous estates and a total of 80 hectares of vineyards. We are in the beating heart of the classic zone of the denomination, an area particularly suited to viticulture and dominated by Sangiovese grapes. The vineyards from which Brancaia Chianti Classico DOCG are grown at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level and have a predominantly southern exposure. The spurred cordon vines are planted in soils composed of sand, clay, and silt. The Sangiovese vineyards of the Chianti Classico DOCG Brancaia boast manual harvesting and the complete absence of irrigation. Following the principles of integrated production, the use of fertilizers and pesticides has been significantly reduced. The avoidance of insecticide treatments and the grassing of the swaths between the rows have the advantage of restoring the balance present in nature, facilitating the reproduction of ladybugs and other beneficial insects. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a temperature of 30°C, while aging begins in oak barrels or concrete tanks for a period of no less than 12 months and is completed in the bottle.
