The wines of Umbria: The best Umbrian wines at affordable prices

Umbria is one of the Italian regions, which in recent years has succeeded in gaining a prominent place in the Italian wine scene, especially with regard to the production of red wines. Vine cultivation in Umbria has ancient origins: it was the Etruscans who introduced various plantations, while the Romans favoured its development by exporting the wines produced throughout the empire. Umbrian vineyards are divided equally between white and black grapes. In particular, the most cultivated black grapes are Sagrantino, Merlot, Sangiovese, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon and Montepulciano. While among the white grape varieties, the main ones are: grechetto, trebbiano toscano, chardonnay, malvasia bianca and riesling. Umbria can boast 2 Denominazioni di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) and 13 Denominazioni di Origine Controllata (DOC). It is above all in the province of Perugia that the 2 most important Umbrian red DOCG wines, Montefalco Sagrantino and Torgiano Rosso Riserva, are produced, while the oldest wine growing area is undoubtedly Orvieto with its DOC Orvieto. xtraWine offers you only the best Umbrian wines that have received important awards from Bibenda, Veronelli and AIS. 国家名称 Italy
历史 Originally in this region lived two ancient Italic peoples: the Umbrians and the Etruscans. At the Roman age of Emperor Augustus, who determined the boundaries, this region extended to the Adriatic coast of the Marches and to the west left the area of Lake Trasimeno to Etruria. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Region was divided between the Lombards and the Byzantines. Over time these areas were always divided into many small states, among which the Lordships of the Monferrato and the Malatesta became very powerful.

土壤和气候 The Region being closed up by the mountain ranges does not benefit from the influence of the sea. The climate is continental with cold winters and hot summers. Precipitation is abundant especially near the Apennine chains. Often in the hollows and in the smaller flat stretches, in summer there is no wind and the air is sultry. In general, Umbria enjoys an excellent climate due to the rich vegetation.Umbria is the only Italian region entirely inter-linked. It is predominantly hilly, even the most hilly in Italy.

典型产品 Orvieto DOC, perhaps the best known of the wines of Umbria, is a fresh and clean white with a pleasant note of minerals and fresh almonds. Traditionally, it also exists in two other versions: sweetish or lovable, but now it is produced almost exclusively in the dry version. The vines used are Trebbiano, Verdello, Grechetto, Malvasia and others that grow on the hills around the beautiful city of Orvieto. Montefalco Sagrantino is a hot red wine, full, rich and spicy, produced exclusively with Sagrantino grapes, both in the dry version and in the amiable one. In 1992 he was entitled to the DOCG designation.
