Chateau Haut Marbuzet

Château Haut-Marbuzet is a Bordeaux wine estate in the appellation of Saint-Estèphe, known for red wine made principally from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Although the property has existed since the 18th Century, its history as a quality producer is usually dated from its acquisition 1952 by Hervé Duboscq, whose heirs still own the estate as well as Chambert-Marbuzet and Tour de Marbuzet.

The property was one of the original Crus Bourgeois in 1932, promoted to Grand Bourgeois Exceptionnels in 1978, and confirmed as one of nine Crus Bourgeois Exceptionnels in 2003. It is generally regarded as being comparable in quality to many Cru Classé wines.

The vineyard is situated between Château Montrose and Cos d'Estournel, and has around 40 hectares (99 acres) of vineyard planted 50 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 percent to Merlot and 10 percent to Cabernet Franc. Grapes are harvested as late as possible, and aged in all-new oak barrels for 18 months. This ripeness level, creamy oak and high Merlot content give a voluptuous wine that is approachable in its youth.

The second wine is Château MacCarthy, made from younger vines. The name originally applied to a distinct property, which was purchased in 1988 and added to Haut-Marbuzet.
