It was in 1840 when Felipe de Mata, the eighth Marqués de Vargas, planted the first vines in the outskirts of Logroño.
Especially memorable was Hilario de la Mata, the father of the current Marqués de Vargas, who for years presided over one of the most emblematic wineries in Rioja.

| 气候 | Thanks to the excellent weather conditions, the vegetative cycle of our vines shows optimal development during the ripening process. The month of September was very important in ensuring good ripening, thanks to the day/night temperature difference, which is essential for the further ageing of the wine. 400 millimetres of rain fell, perfectly distributed over the months of the growing cycle. It was an ideal year for red grape varieties, to obtain wines with fine tannic structure and length. |
