Burggrafler
The two traditional wineries Merano and Burggräfler together form the biggest winery of western South Tyrol.
The merger of the Wine Cellar of Marlengo (founded in 1901) and the Lagundo Winery (founded in 1909) occurred in the year 1984.
On July 1st 2010 the fusion of the two most venerable wine cooperatives in the Burggrafenamt region, the Burggräfler Winery and the Merano Winery (founded in 1952) took place to create the Meran Burggräfler Winery, with almost 400 members and circa 250 hectares of vineyards.
The many small and microproducers cultivate some of the best hillsides in Merano and the surrounding villages of Lagundo, Tirolo, Caines, Rifiano, Scena, Marlegno, Cermes and Lana.
The producing area in the western part reaches the Vinschgau valley, which is caracterized by its extreme climatic conditions. The Vinschgau valley is also the smallest closed DOC producing area in South Tyrol.
The philosophy is therefore simple: the right varieties for the location and only top quality. High quality grapes mature in favor of 25 – 30% yield reduction. The cellar master and his employees work in a technical excellent equipped cellar.
Technical know-how, enthusiasm and top facilities help to mature wines of expression, completion and rich in content. Lately the Burggräfler winery has been represented in the top places of national and international tastings.
