Monastero Trappiste Vitorchiano

We are a community of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance (better known as the Trappist Order) and we belong to that monastic movement which, from the sixth century, following the Rule of St Benedict, evangelised and promoted the development of the whole of Europe. The Cistercian Order was born in 1098, in Cîteaux (France), where some monks from Molesme (a Benedictine abbey) wanted to build a new monastery to strive to live the Rule of St. Benedict with more authenticity and purity. S. Robert, St Alberic and St Stephen were its founders and first abbots.
