A Barolo Riserva, or rather an 'Extra Barolo' or 'Stravecchio', as it was written on the labels on the belly and neck of the bottles from the 1920s and 1930s (up to and including 1941): and then replaced by the terms 'Barolo Riserva' (on the belly) and 'Riserva' (on the neck). Monfortino was thus born as a wine produced only in great vintages, from the selection of the best grapes bought from the vineyards of Monforte and Serralunga (the latter provenance is however debated), and vinified in a 'dedicated' manner. It became famous sooner abroad than in Italy, where it was sold especially to doctors and university professors in Turin and then Milan: in some of the most historic wine shops, as early as the late 1950s, one could find the 12.5-litre format of Monfortino - the legendary quarto di Brenta - reserved for the finest wines.

The aromas emerge in a clear sequence highlighting a variegated range of olfactory sensations. We encounter ripe fruit, unripe cherries, plums, blackberries, hints of mushrooms, truffles, well-integrated hints of chocolate, hints of sweet liquorice, leather and earth.

颜色

To the eye, it has a beautiful ruby red colour with garnet reflections.

味道

Mouth caressed by silky tannins excellently supported by a precious minerality and balanced by a not preponderant alcohol. The finish in the mouth is enriched by a return of the perfumed sensations.

The beginning of the story of Giacomo Conterno winery is conventionally traced in 1908 when Giovanni Conterno and his family (including Giacomo, that is one of three children), returned to Italy after he emigrated to Argentina, they start an inn, producing wine, in the village at San Giuseppe in Monforte d'Alba. Giacomo grows, therefore, between the tavern and the winery until he goes to fight in the First World War as a gunner.
