Located on the first hills of the Vomano river valley, a couple of kilometers from the Adriatic and less than twenty of the Gran Sasso mountain chain (m.2920), the Orlandi Contucci Ponno Farm enjoys a privileged climatic position, benefiting from the 'thermo-regulating action of the sea, as the breezes coming from the high mountain that temper the heat of summer nights, ensuring the vines a regular and continuous vegetative cycle essential to the development of the organoleptic qualities of the grapes.
The soils destined to the vineyards are alluvial brecciosa, with a particular calcareous mixture that has favored the planting of particular quality vines of Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cabernet grapes, directly imported from France after having ascertained from the analyzes carried out that this dough was completely similar to that of one of the most prized areas of Bordeaux.
It is in this context that we tried to revalue some original clones of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo - a vine that already existed in the area at the end of the eighteenth century - selecting them according to their characteristics with respect to the soil and the microclimate. Produced and vinified as required by its specification, this wine can favorably compete with the most balanced Italian wines.
