BenRiach

The BenRiach name comes from the Gaelic "Red Deer Hill", in fact in the nearby Teindland forest it is not difficult to see some red wild deer. The distillery is in the heart of Speyside one of the most famous whiskeys, between Rothes and Elgin in northeast Scotland.
The distillery was founded in 1898 by John Duff and its location has been specially selected to take advantage of the quality of the nearby water source (Bourmade) and the proximity to the Great North of Scotland Railways. The start however is not fortunate and, due to the great recession of the whiskey of that period, the distillery closes in 1900 after just two years of production.
1972 is a historic year for BenRiach; the demand for turtlene whiskey from Islay was at its highest, but the Glenlivet Distilleries ltd. he had no Islay island distillery in his portfolio. It is BenRiach to be chosen for this task that from that day alongside the regular production of unmalted single malt, also the production of muddy malt, a definitely unusual choice for a Speyside distillery.
