Description

What kind of wine it is

The Mustazzo Cannonau di Sardegna by Sella & Mosca is a still red wine with a modern profile. Made from Cannonau grapes, it offers a complex bouquet where notes of blackberry and dark fruit intertwine with hints of violet, myrtle and undergrowth, enriched by subtle spicy nuances and cedarwood. On the palate, the tasting reveals a dynamic character, led by an extraordinary acidity that balances its powerful structure. The enveloping tannins guide the tasting towards a long and savoury finish. It is ideal for enhancing fresh cheeses, beef dishes or flavourful shellfish risottos.

Where it comes from

This red wine is born from the soils of the vast Alghero estate, reflecting the unique characteristics of the area. The rows are cultivated using the goblet bush vine system. The vines, over half a century old, ensure very low yields that favour an intense aromatic concentration. The vineyards stretch over six hundred metres above sea level, where the significant temperature variations preserve the fruit's fragrance and structural vitality. The synergy between altitude and old vines gives the wine its typical depth and a distinctly balanced character.

How it is produced

The process begins with careful destemming and an extra gentle pressing to maintain the original qualities of the grapes. The subsequent maceration is managed using the délestage technique, essential for optimally calibrating the extraction of colour and polyphenolic components. The process continues with malolactic fermentation to soften and stabilise the palate. The final ageing is skilfully divided between wooden and concrete barrels, with some batches kept in steel, resulting in a glass with lively reflections, pleasant softness and excellent ageing potential.

History and Curiosities

The Mustazzo Cannonau di Sardegna DOC embodies the authentic spirit of Sella & Mosca. Born from a collaboration with designer Antonio Marras, this wine expresses a deep connection with the land, coming from prized old bush-trained vines cultivated at over 600 metres above sea level. The historic 55-year-old vines of the Alghero estate offer minimal yields to ensure extraordinary aromatic concentration. An identity-rich red of great character, perfect for ageing over time thanks to its remarkable longevity of 5-10 years.
