The Macallan

Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a farmer in the area under the name of Elchies Distillery, Macallan goes hand in hand until 1892 when, Roderick Kemp, a Elgin wine merchant and former Talisker distiller, acquires it extends and changes its name to Macallan-Glenlivet (the Glenlivet suffix was removed in 1980).

Kemp is able to expand the distillery continuously on the market with excellent results. Situated on the western shore of the Spey River, near the city of Aberlour, the estate occupies 158 hectares, of which 37 are cultivated with barley.

In the mid-twentieth century, the distillery knows a long phase of modernization due to the growing and growing demand for the market, leading to being the third single malt producer with more than 500,000 crates a year.
