Areas of cultivation The vine, identified as Incrocio Manzoni 1-50, is now grown mainly in the Triveneto area and is included in the blends of some disciplinary areas including the Alto Livenza IGT.
History The Manzoni rosa grape variety was obtained in the 1930's by hybridization of native grape varieties of the Marca Trevigiana and grape varieties of different origins, during experiments aimed at improving the resistance of the vines to adversities and the organoleptic result of the products of their vinification. The experiments, conducted by Prof. Luigi Manzoni of the Scuola Enologica di Conegliano, led to the obtaining of a whole family of vines known as Incroci Manzoni. The Manzoni Rosa is one of these and was obtained by crossing Trebbiano Romagnolo and the aromatic Traminer.
Ampelographic features From an ampelographic point of view, the Manzoni rosa vine has medium, orbicular, trilobate leaves. The bunch is medium-small, pyramidal, medium-compact, with small, spheroidal berries, with a medium-thick, pruinose, pinkish skin.
Characteristics of the wine obtained from this grape variety The wines of the pink Manzoni vine have straw yellow gold reflections and strong notes of rose and apricot on the nose. In the mouth they are full, with balanced sweetness thanks to a pleasant freshness of taste. The finish has a characteristic bitter almond aftertaste.
