Areas of cultivation White-grape vine originally in the Loire valley and also called Pineau or Pineau de la Loire, chenin blanc has been successfully transplanted to the Americas, South Africa, Israel and Oceania.
Ampelographic features Leaf: medium size; Both the flap and the lobes are contorted; Lower brutal and arachnid side on the ribs, brutal and tomentosa on the flap; Surface with fine bollosity, dark green; Red petiole point; Partially red ribs on the top, green or partially red on the bottom. Bunch: medium, compact; Visible peduncle, herbaceous; Axis of the non-colored spine. Acino: white, uniformly colored, ellipsoid, medium and regular; Regular cross section; Navel not infossato; Colorless juice; Fine peel; Juicy flesh, simple flavor; Short or medium length pedicel.
Characteristics of the wine obtained from this grape variety This type typically produces fresh, medium-bodied, moderately alcoholic and medium-high, sweet and sparkling wines. The wines made with Chenin blanc are very fragrant, with aromas of honey, flowers, wet straw, smoke and wet wool. The characteristic tastes include ripe apple, pear, peach and soft honey notes and high quality Chenin Blanc can have a long, persistent sweet ending. Some wine has the ability to age for decades due to high levels of acidity and remarkable sugary residues.
