Zaccagnini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Tralcetto is a still red wine from Abruzzo, matured in wooden barrels, which captures the essence of the denomination through Montepulciano grapes. It appears an intense ruby red with lively violet highlights, while the bouquet is fruity and enveloping, characterised by clear notes of ripe wild red berries and delicate hints of white pepper. On the palate, it is dry, velvety and well-structured, supported by a harmonious and well-integrated tannic texture. It is the ideal companion for cured meats, flavourful cheeses and game roasts, expressing its character best when served at a temperature of 16-18 °C after a light decanting.

This wine originates in Bolognano, where the Zaccagnini vineyards are situated in a privileged position between the Maiella massif and the Adriatic Sea. This particular geographical location ensures a favourable microclimate for the perfect ripening of the grapes and the development of a complex aromatic profile. The vines grow on medium-textured clay soils, a terroir that gives the wine its typical fullness and vigour. The winery maintains a strong connection with the land, producing wines that faithfully reflect the agronomic and historical identity of Abruzzo.

Production begins with gentle pressing and destemming of the bunches. This is followed by submerged cap maceration, essential for optimal extraction of colour and phenolic substances. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for about fifteen days. Afterwards, the wine matures for four months in wooden barrels, a stage that smooths the tannins while preserving the freshness of the fruit. The process concludes with a period of bottle ageing, which stabilises its sensory profile and ensures a good ageing potential.

Producer

The Zaccagnini Winery is a wine-producing company located among the picturesque hills of Bolognano, in the heart of Abruzzo, a region where the tradition of winemaking has deep roots. Its history began in 1978 when Marcello Zaccagnini decided to create a company with a young and innovative style to produce high-quality wine.

In a short time, thanks to the dedication and commitment of the family, Zaccagnini gained a prominent reputation in the national and international wine scene. The success is the result of a production philosophy based on the careful selection of grapes, respect for traditions, and the use of the most advanced technique.

Food Pairings

To best enhance this Abruzzo red, it is recommended to serve it at 16-18°C in a tulip-shaped glass, after decanting for an hour. Its soft tannic structure pairs beautifully with cured meats, cheeses, and flavourful pizzas, making it an excellent wine for the entire meal. If stored in a cool place, it evolves over time, becoming the ideal companion for rich game roasts.
