Description
What kind of wine it is
Ugo Lequio Langhe Nebbiolo is a still red wine that expresses the authentic character of the Nebbiolo grape variety. It displays a ruby colour tending towards garnet, with a refined bouquet characterised by distinct notes of wild berries. On the palate, it reveals a velvety texture and good complexity, balanced by a pleasantly bitter note on the finish. The sip concludes with a persistent finish. It is the ideal pairing for truffle fondue, classic Piedmontese agnolotti, white meats and medium-aged cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Castellizzano area in Treiso, in the heart of the Langhe. The vineyards are situated at around four hundred metres above sea level, with an optimal north-west exposure that ensures slow and balanced ripening. The Ugo Lequio winery manages production by maintaining low yields per hectare, ensuring an excellent quality raw material, capable of faithfully expressing the unique nuances of the Piedmontese hillside terroir.
How it is produced
Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature for about a week. Afterwards, the wine matures for five or six months in French oak barrels, an essential step to soften the tannic structure while preserving the aromatic integrity of the fruit. This process gives the Nebbiolo excellent ageing potential. To fully appreciate its complexity, it is recommended to decant for one hour and serve at a temperature between sixteen and eighteen degrees.
History and Curiosities
Piedmontese excellence is expressed in the Langhe Nebbiolo 2023 by Ugo Lequio, a winery founded in 1981. Produced at an altitude of 400 metres in the Castellizzano vineyard, the grapes give rise to a wine that matures elegantly in used French oak. This skilful process yields a long-lived and velvety red, already awarded 92 points by Robert Parker. Housed in the traditional Albeisa bottle, this oenological gem embodies the authentic soul of the Langhe, offering a profound tasting experience destined to evolve magnificently for over a decade.

At the beginning of the 1980s, he signed his first bottles, personally selecting the grapes from six hectares of vineyard at "Cascina Nuova", a farm located in the heart of the historic Gallina hill, once part of the great wine-growing estate of the Lords of Neive Conti Riccardi Candiani, now owned by Marcarino.
The precious experience acquired over time, research and experimentation in the vineyard and in the cellar, have contributed to making this producer a protagonist of the quality revolution that, in recent years, has led to the emergence of an elitist wine culture.
The conviction that a great wine is born over time and that waiting, managed without anxiety, gives it class, importance and longevity, leads Ugo to place his bottles on the market only after a long and proper rest. Read more
