Description

Peiragal is an ancient dialect term that refers to hills with a good slope, composed of large formations of clay and limestone soil, very firm, with large stones. These conditions prevent rain from permeating the ground and lead vines to grow very deep roots, to search for moisture that rises from the deep layers through capillary action. This produces sparse bunches and, therefore, a very structured wine, with moderate acidity, balanced alcohol content and graceful, never-too-prominent tannins.

Perfume

Perfume

The nose is complex, with fragrant notes of berries and morello cherries that combine with enveloping hints of vanilla bean.

Color

Color

The color is intense purple red with violet reflections.

Taste

Taste

On the palate we find a full and elegant body, with robust, yet sweet and enveloping tannins. The long persistence of the sip is typical. A light woody note joins the wide range of aromas and flavors, increasing its complexity in a harmonious sensation of pleasantness.

The Marchesi di Barolo winery was founded in 1806 in the heart of the Langhe, following the marriage between Carlo Tancredi Falletti and the French aristocrat Juliette Colbert di Maulévrier, who understood the importance of nebbiolo grapes, the production of which gave rise to intense, decisive wines that would improve with time.Xtrawine devotes special attention to Marchesi di Barolo wines, proposing bottles that have received important awards from Bibenda and belonging to the best vintages of 2012, 2013 and 2016.At the end of the 19th century, the Marchesi di Barolo winery was acquired by Pietro Abbona, and is now run by his nephew Ernesto Abbona, who can count on a vineyard estate of 65 hectares from which come high-quality wines that add to the winery's fame. Thanks to the climatic conditions and the fertility of the land, aromatic, pure and simple grapes are cultivated, which are processed in the cellar to the best of their ability thanks to proven experience in the field. Barbera Peiragal is perfect for every occasion. It goes well with typical starters from the Langhe, vitello tonnato and flan with vegetables, first courses with hearty sauces and second courses such as roasts or boiled meats, but it greatly enhances traditional minestrone (thick soup with vegetables), too. It is ideal for sipping alongside toma cheeses and hard medium-ripened cheeses.
