Description
What kind of wine it is
Dolcetto d’Alba Madonna del Dono by Marchesi di Barolo is a red wine with Denomination of Controlled Origin produced in Piedmont, an authentic expression of the Dolcetto grape variety aged in steel and cement. On the nose, it releases a fragrant aroma of morello cherry, blackcurrant and wild berries with hints of violet and spices, while on the palate it reveals a medium-full body and a pleasant softness. This balanced wine is characterised by light, smooth tannins, leading to a finish enhanced by a delicate note of almond, perfect for accompanying flavourful first courses, red meats and game.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Madonna di Como, a picturesque hilly area located east of Alba. The vineyards, managed using the Guyot training system, are situated on slopes at around four hundred metres above sea level. In this setting, the vines benefit from a continental climate, with harsh winters and dry summers, optimal conditions for the aromatic ripening of Dolcetto. The roots draw nourishment from a predominantly calcareous soil, loose in texture, composed of quartz sand and fine silt, alternating with layers of grey sandstone. This recently formed terroir gives the wine the harmony and structural balance that distinguish it.
How it is produced
The vinification process begins with a manual harvest, followed by rapid destemming and gentle pressing. The must macerates for about four days in small vats at a controlled temperature. Racking takes place before fermentation is complete, so that it continues at a low temperature and precisely extracts the fruity aromas of the grape variety. After the spontaneous malolactic fermentation, maturation continues exclusively in vitrified cement vats or stainless steel containers. This production choice allows the natural fragrance and richness of the primary aromatic profile to be preserved intact.
