Description

What kind of wine it is

Barthenau S. Urbano Pinot Nero by Hofstätter is a still red wine that elegantly recalls the style of Burgundy. Made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes, it displays a clear garnet colour. The bouquet reveals smoky nuances and hints of blackcurrant, followed by subtle notes of tar and wild strawberries. On the palate, it shows a bold and consistent character, proving to be dense and structured. The sip is enveloped by smooth tannins, maintaining a pleasant acid-tannin tension that leads to a decidedly persistent finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Termeno, in the heart of Alto Adige, a mountainous area renowned for viticulture. The vines sink their roots into moraine and porphyry soils, which impart a pronounced aromatic definition and a decisive flavour profile. Hofstätter follows the philosophy of Vigna classification, enhancing the identity of each individual plot and the unique nuances of the local terroir. The local microclimate promotes a perfect balance between fruit richness and fresh acidity, outlining a distinctive structural elegance.

How it is produced

Production begins with careful management of the Guyot-trained vineyards, followed by a winemaking process aimed at preserving the purity of the fruit. Vinification and initial maturation take place in stainless steel. Subsequently, the wine rests for a year in first and second passage barrels, then stabilises further in steel. The process concludes with twelve months of ageing in oak barrels, which harmoniously integrate the woody notes. The result is a profound wine, characterised by a well-defined acidity that ensures freshness and remarkable ageing potential.

The wisdom of generations. The drive to continuously create something new together. Our family winery’s story stretches back to the 19th century. Anticipating the future, just like Paolo Foradori. He once coins the term "Vigna" – marking the dawn of single-vineyard classification in Alto Adige. Pioneering spirit is deeply ingrained in our family heritage. Today, it is led by Martin and Beatrix Foradori Hofstätter, supported by the next generation: Niklas and Emma.

We uphold the highest standards every single day. In the vineyard, this means nurturing our vines through gentle pruning and the use of cover crops to enhance their strength. In the wine cellar, innovation meets tradition, as we age our wines in both classic wooden barrels and modern concrete vats. Cutting-edge cellar technology also plays an essential role in ensuring the quality of our wines.
