Description
What kind of wine it is
Barthenau Pinot Nero Vigna S. Urbano by Hofstatter is a still red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes. This Alto Adige expression stands out for its elegant style, characterised by a refined structure and a remarkable ability to evolve over time. Vinification in steel and subsequent ageing in wood give it a harmonious profile, marked by well-defined tannins and a decidedly persistent finish. It is particularly well suited to accompany roast beef, game dishes and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This Pinot Noir originates in the Termeno area, in the province of Bolzano, within the renowned Vigna Sant’Urbano cru. The Alto Adige region offers pedoclimatic conditions that favour the optimal development of the grape variety. The Hofstatter winery cultivates its vineyards with great attention to the local agricultural ecosystem: the use of gentle pruning and cover crops ensures the health of the vines, outlining a production approach aimed at maximum agronomic precision.
How it is produced
The process begins with vinification in steel, chosen to preserve the fruit’s aromatic purity. The wine then matures for a year in first and second passage barrels, acquiring greater structural complexity. After the wood phase, there is further stabilisation in steel and a final year of rest in the bottle. Visually, it presents a clear garnet colour, while on the nose it releases smoky hints, currants, wild strawberries and a slight note of goudron. On the palate it is lively, fresh and balanced.
