Description
What kind of wine it is
Borgo alla Terra Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a Tuscan white wine by Geografico, made from Vernaccia grapes. Its elegant bouquet is characterised by citrus fruits and white flowers with hints of broom. On the palate, it combines lively freshness with fruity notes of apple and peach, enriched by touches of acacia and almond. The balanced structure leads to a slightly bitter finish, typical of Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Perfect as an aperitif, it is best enjoyed paired with white meats, fish in creamy sauces and refined cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the renowned lands between Florence and Siena, at the foot of the hills of San Gimignano. Here, the clay-sandy soils and Mediterranean climate define the flavour progression and the typical freshness of Vernaccia. Geografico carries out a rigorous selection in the vineyard, overseen by oenologist Alessandro Barabesi, to safeguard quality and the essence of the terroir. Every stage of production strictly follows the standards of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, resulting in a pure and distinctive interpretation of the Tuscan landscape.
How it is produced
In mid-September, the grapes are hand-picked with a meticulous selection of bunches. The white vinification process uses gentle pressing and low temperature control to enhance the primary aromas. Maturation takes place exclusively in stainless steel tanks, avoiding the use of barrels to maintain a clear and vibrant aromatic profile. Finally, a carefully timed refinement in the bottle gives the wine its final elegance and structural precision, making it harmonious and enjoyable.
History and Curiosities
Since 1961, the Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico have safeguarded Tuscan excellence. At the foot of the renowned towered city of San Gimignano, thirty local winegrowers cultivate the grapes destined for the prestigious Borgo alla Terra range. Under the guidance of oenologist Alessandro Barabesi, rigorous vineyard selection is combined with careful manual harvesting, which for the 2025 vintage was delayed by ten days. This Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG is born from clay-sandy soils under the Mediterranean sun: a source of pride for the Piccini family.

Today, saying Chianti in the world means evoking much more than a wine. This was also made possible thanks to seventeen far-sighted winemakers - "Those of Geografico" - who already in 1961 understood the importance of the extraordinary bond between a wine and its production area.
From here, more than half a century ago, the story of the Geografico started and today continues its journey thanks to the passion for the territory of Piccini family, who bought it to continue its memory.
From those seventeen initial winemakers, today we can count even sixty. All mainly rooted in the territories of Chianti and Chianti Classico, but also of Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Sixty passionate winemakers working every day to enhance a great appellation and its wines, starting with its main grape variety: Sangiovese. Read more
