Description
What kind of wine it is
Vie di Romans Chardonnay is a still white wine produced by Vie di Romans in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, classified as Friuli Isonzo. An authentic expression of the grape variety, Chardonnay appears in the glass with a bright straw yellow hue with golden reflections and an aromatic profile of fruity notes of pineapple, white peach, apricot and citron zest. After temperature-controlled fermentation and ageing in barrels on the lees, it is enveloping on the palate, with buttery hints, fresh almond, vanilla and balsamic touches. The sip stands out for its full and savoury style, well-structured and balanced, offering remarkable persistence and a distinctly mineral finish.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Mariano del Friuli from vineyards situated about thirty-one metres above sea level. The vines, trained using simple guyot and spur cordon methods, benefit from optimal exposures that favour the development of the bunches. The area is characterised by its moderately deep soils, fertile and well-drained, with a reddish clay fraction due to the presence of iron and aluminium oxides. These colluvial clays, formed by surface erosion of morainic slopes, impart an unmistakable territorial imprint to the glass, ensuring the grapes achieve balanced ripening and giving the wine its characteristic clear and savoury expression.
How it is produced
The production process begins with fermentation at a controlled temperature lasting about twenty days. Maturation then continues with ageing in barrels in contact with the lees for nine months, a key technique to support the wine’s structure and promote perfect aromatic integration. Afterwards, the wine completes its journey with a further eight months of bottle ageing. This meticulous production protocol consolidates the smoothness of the texture and the lively freshness, resulting in a harmonious, rich tasting experience with a decisive and persistent finish.
History and Curiosities
The elegance of the region is fully expressed in the Vie di Romans Chardonnay 2024, a prestigious white wine from the Friuli Isonzo DOC. Produced in Mariano del Friuli on reddish, iron-rich soils, this wine matures for 9 months in barrique on the lees, followed by a further 8 months of ageing in the bottle. To the eye, it reveals a bright golden yellow, releasing intense aromas of pineapple, white peach and enticing buttery notes. On the palate, it offers a soft and perfectly balanced sip, enhanced by a lively savoury freshness and a persistent mineral finish.
