Description
What kind of wine it is
Roggio del Filare is a red wine that faithfully reflects the character of Rosso Piceno Superiore through a blend of Montepulciano and Sangiovese. Velenosi presents a wine with an enveloping structure and a persistent finish. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby colour with slight garnet highlights. The nose releases intense aromas of blackberry and cherry jam, enhanced by a delicate spiciness. On the palate, it stands out for its velvety texture, supported by ripe tannins that enhance its warm and fleshy harmony.
Where it comes from
This Marche red originates from estate-owned vineyards situated at around two hundred metres above sea level, cultivated using the Guyot system between the areas of Offida and Ascoli Piceno. The soils of the two zones complement each other harmoniously: the clay-based soils with calcareous veins of Offida provide strength and elegance, while the sandy and medium-textured soils of the Ascoli area accentuate the aromatic finesse of the grapes. These pedoclimatic conditions are optimal for bringing the grapes to full and defined phenolic ripeness.
How it is produced
Production begins in mid-October with manual harvesting, followed by a brief stay in cold rooms to preserve the aromatic precursors. After destemming, fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, with a twenty-day maceration on the skins supported by scheduled pump-overs. Maturation continues for eighteen months in new French oak barrels. This long ageing period allows the fruit and tannins to integrate perfectly, giving the wine its characteristic balance and depth.
History and Curiosities
Born in the Marche region from the dedication of Angela and Ercole Velenosi, the winery has been producing Roggio del Filare since 1993, the highest expression of Rosso Piceno Superiore DOC. This oenological masterpiece is made from Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes grown between Offida and Ascoli Piceno. Expertly aged for 18 months in French oak barriques, it develops a warm, velvety and vibrantly harmonious palate. Its quality is celebrated by the most prestigious Italian awards, including the renowned Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso, which consecrate it as a true champion.

The heart of the company is located in the historic city of Ascoli Piceno, which is located in the region Marche at a distance of about 20 km from Adriatic Sea and at a height of 150/200 m above sea level.
The company's farms extend across the hills that surround the splendid valley of the Tronto river, which, thanks to its clayey and fertile soils, has always been suited to the cultivation of vines.
In addition to the four companies located in Ascoli Piceno, Castorano, Monsampolo del Tronto and Castel di Lama, there is a vineyard in the area of Ancarano (TE) and in the area of San Marcello (AN), between the Castelli di Jesi.
Since the beginning, the winery has achieved great success with journalistic criticism published in the most renowned national and international newspapers such as: W, Robert Parker, Red shrimp, Luca Maroni, AIS and many others.
This is why it is present throughout the national territory with the collaboration of 85 agencies and abroad where it is present in 52 nations both in Europe and in the rest of the world.
Production to date is approximately 2.500.000 bottles and the expectations certainly don't stop there. Read more
