Story | Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a variety with a very ancient history. The name is thought to derive from the Latin "vernaculus" meaning, appropriately enough, "local" or "from this place". In 1966, Vernaccia di San Gimignano was the first Italian white wine to be awarded its own Denominazione di Origine Controllata, or registered designation of origin. In 1993, it obtained the Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita status. |
