Description
Tenuta Ulisse, founded in 2006, has harnessed its passion for viticulture over the years, combining tradition and innovation to create a great red wine, an expression of the fertile Abruzzo terroir: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Amaranta. The Ulisse brothers' primary goal was to celebrate the area and its winemaking tradition, and to present a highly prized product to the public. To do so, they revive ancient and effective techniques, combining them with the latest discoveries in winemaking. The exact origins of this wine are still unclear, so much so that it was mistakenly associated with Sangiovese. Only later was this theory, formulated in 1906 by Molon, proven wrong. From the calcareous and clayey soil of the town of Crecchio, in the province of Chieti, and from vines that are entirely Montepulciano, the expert winemakers of Tenuta Ulisse are able to produce perfectly ripe bunches, made so also by the particular climate of central-southern Italy. The harvest begins in November, with the grapes being picked by hand. Following crushing and maceration, the grapes are slowly fermented on the skins in aluminum vats for approximately 15-20 days. This is followed by the aging phase, carried out in French oak barrels. The result is an excellent product, a perfect example of the quality of the Montepulciano vineyards. Today Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Amaranta, appreciated by critics and consumers alike, has been awarded the DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) classification.
