Description

What kind of wine is it

Terre di San Leonardo is a harmonious red wine from the Vineyards of the Dolomites. This elegant Bordeaux-style blend skilfully combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carmenere varieties. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby colour, offering a bouquet with notes of plum, violet and delicate herbal hints. On the palate, it is a medium-bodied wine, with lively acidity and a velvety texture supported by fine tannins, finishing with a pleasantly bitter note.

Where does it come from

The wine is born in the Trentino landscape, in a vineyard setting protected by the Alps. The San Leonardo vineyards benefit from a mountain climate that imparts an innate freshness and harmony to the grapes. Since 1724, this historic family estate has worked with artisanal dedication to best enhance the deep territorial identity.

How is it produced

The harvest involves careful manual picking of the grapes at full ripeness. In the winery, gentle pressing is followed by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, with punching down and pumping over. Maturation takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels and French barrels to add complexity, then is completed with an appropriate rest in the bottle before being enjoyed.

History and Curiosities

Since 1724, the San Leonardo Estate has upheld a noble family tradition in Trentino, nestled among lush vineyards and rose gardens sheltered by the Alps. In this enchanting setting, Terre di San Leonardo 2022 is born, an excellent Bordeaux blend that faithfully follows in the footsteps of its renowned elder sibling. The result of expert artisanal practices and the skill of oenologist Carlo Ferrini, this award-winning red from the Vineyards of the Dolomites expresses an innate elegance, recognised by the most authoritative guides with prestigious awards such as the Tre Bicchieri and the Cinque Grappoli.

More than 1000 years ago, it was a monastery, but for over three centuries now San Leonardo has served as the residence of the Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga family, its proud custodians. Today, the San Leonardo estate is a garden of vineyards and roses, protected by the massive barrier of the Alps, which blunt the force of the cold northern winds while the valley floor benefits from, and in turn releases, warmth from nearby Lake Garda.

The tenuta remains an antique world, in which winemaking practices, still uncompromisingly artisanal, yield wines that are true gems of Italy’s wine tradition, marked by freshness, harmony, and an innate elegance.
