Description
What kind of wine it is
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Karia Chardonnay is a still white wine that showcases all the elegance of Chardonnay grown in California. Characterised by a medium body, it stands out for its vibrant acidity and lively texture that envelops the palate with great delicacy. The aromatic profile opens with scents of green apple, lemongrass, lychee and jasmine, enriched by subtle hints of coriander. On the palate, it reveals defined flavours of white peach, Asian pear and citron, intertwined with light notes of lanolin and white pepper that lead to a long, clean finish.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from vineyards located in the renowned Napa Valley, a Californian region of absolute prestige. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars directly manages the raw material to ensure an authentic expression of the terroir. This attention results in a refined minerality and citrus notes that perfectly balance the wine’s structure. At the table, it proves to be the ideal companion for dishes based on white fish, grilled salmon, shellfish, creamy pasta dishes, cheeses and poultry.
How it is produced
The winemaking process aims to enhance the qualities of Chardonnay while maintaining a balanced structure. The wine matures through ageing in stainless steel and French oak barrels, a technique designed to develop complexity while preserving a fresh and smooth texture. This process harmoniously blends the fruity component with delicate spicy and vanilla notes. The result is a bright white wine, with a silky texture, boasting excellent ageing potential that allows it to mature beautifully over time.

This historic winery was made famous in 1976, the year of the "Judgment of Paris", a blind winetasting that was conducted in Paris with a panel of 9 French tasters who tasted samples of California’s best Cabernet and Chardonnay and matched them against some of the finest labels from Bordeaux and Burgandy. Despite pessimistic predictions, due to the fact that Californian wines were only considered an interesting "novelty" in the world of wine, they were declared the winners. First place was assigned to S.L.V. 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon from Stag’s Leap, a phenomenon that created an upheaval in the world’s viticultural circles.
The Antinori family had been a managing partner since 2007 while in 2023, they acquired the entire Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars estate to preserve and continue to pursue the extraordinary legacy of this unique winery. Read more
