Description

What kind of wine is it

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars FAY Cabernet Sauvignon is a still red wine from Napa Valley with a deep ruby hue. It is crafted from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, offering intense notes of blackberry, blackcurrant and violet. On the palate, it reveals a medium-full body with lively character, where plum and black cherry merge with hints of hibiscus and redcurrant. The tasting experience is enriched by savoury nuances of lavender and bay leaf, supported by finely polished tannins that lead to a long finish with elegant touches of liquorice and mocha.

Where does it come from

This glass originates in the Stags Leap District, a prestigious sub-region of Napa Valley in California. The Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars estate made history in the world of wine with its victory at the Judgment of Paris in 1976. The grapes reflect an elegant profile where ripe fruit perfectly balances the herbal components. To enhance a more relaxed and precise drinking experience, it is recommended to decant for one hour and serve between 16 and 18°C. This allows the wine to reveal its full aromatic breadth and solid ageing potential.

How is it produced

Production aims to preserve the integrity of the fruit and ensure a silky texture and juicy mid-palate. Precise extraction shapes a harmonious structure, enhanced by a fresh acidity that supports the smoothness and persistence of the sip. When paired, it ideally complements robust flavours such as red meats, game and mature cheeses. It also creates balanced harmonies with structured dishes, ranging from soy and maple glazed salmon to pork ribs with saba, and even a rich aubergine parmigiana.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1970 in Napa Valley, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars made history in the world of oenology by triumphing at the renowned “Judgment of Paris” in 1976, an event that established the excellence of Californian red wines. The FAY Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 celebrates this prestigious legacy by offering a silky and enveloping sip, crafted from grapes grown directly in the estate’s vineyards. Awarded 95 points by Wine Spectator, this exceptional wine expresses all the elegance of a legendary terroir through a vibrant and memorable glass.

  • Start up year: 1970
Stag's Leap is considered one of the most important wineries in California’s Napa Valley. Warren Winiarski founded Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in 1970 and today the winery is known worldwide especially for its production of excellent Cabernet Sauvignon wines.

This historic winery was made famous in 1976, the year of the "Judgment of Paris", a blind winetasting that was conducted in Paris with a panel of 9 French tasters who tasted samples of California’s best Cabernet and Chardonnay and matched them against some of the finest labels from Bordeaux and Burgandy. Despite pessimistic predictions, due to the fact that Californian wines were only considered an interesting "novelty" in the world of wine, they were declared the winners. First place was assigned to S.L.V. 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon from Stag’s Leap, a phenomenon that created an upheaval in the world’s viticultural circles.

The Antinori family had been a managing partner since 2007 while in 2023, they acquired the entire Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars estate to preserve and continue to pursue the extraordinary legacy of this unique winery.
