Description

What kind of wine it is

The Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is a still red wine that embodies the essence of Napa Valley. This blend combines the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the intensity of Petit Verdot, delivering a powerful and well-defined sip. On the palate, it stands out for its silky texture and creamy consistency, supported by vibrant acidity and perfectly integrated tannins. Maturation in oak contributes to a balanced profile, giving the wine a solid structure that ensures excellent ageing potential over time.

Where it comes from

This elegant Californian red originates in the Napa Valley, a highly prestigious wine-growing area. The Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars winery, which made history in oenology with the famous “Judgment of Paris”, grows its grapes in a region capable of imparting both power and refinement. The Californian microclimate is directly reflected in the glass, encouraging optimal ripening that gives the wine concentrated dark fruit and a pronounced structural elegance, able to support a harmonious and persistent finish.

How it is produced

The vinification of this wine involves careful ageing in oak barrels, a choice that enriches the bouquet with elegant spicy notes of cedar, cloves and star anise. On the nose, it opens with complex layers of black and blue fruits, including blackcurrant, rum-soaked cherry and plum, accompanied by delicate hints of walnut, dried rose petals, tea and violet. Tasting reveals a bold and balanced sip, where the aromatic intensity evolves towards a savoury finish characterised by notes of espresso, dark chocolate and cocoa, closing with a persistent balsamic freshness of mint.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1970, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is an institution of Napa Valley, which became legendary thanks to the famous “Judgment of Paris” in 1976. The Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 celebrates this glorious heritage by offering an experience of rare elegance. Awarded 94 points by Decanter and 92 by Robert Parker, this iconic Californian red commemorates on its label the year of its founding and the historic Parisian triumph: a multi-award-winning masterpiece that continues to captivate international critics.

Stag's Leap is considered one of the most important wineries in California’s Napa Valley. Warren Winiarski founded Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in 1970 and today the winery is known worldwide especially for its production of excellent Cabernet Sauvignon wines.

This historic winery was made famous in 1976, the year of the "Judgment of Paris", a blind winetasting that was conducted in Paris with a panel of 9 French tasters who tasted samples of California’s best Cabernet and Chardonnay and matched them against some of the finest labels from Bordeaux and Burgandy. Despite pessimistic predictions, due to the fact that Californian wines were only considered an interesting "novelty" in the world of wine, they were declared the winners. First place was assigned to S.L.V. 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon from Stag’s Leap, a phenomenon that created an upheaval in the world’s viticultural circles.

The Antinori family had been a managing partner since 2007 while in 2023, they acquired the entire Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars estate to preserve and continue to pursue the extraordinary legacy of this unique winery.
