Description
Still white wine from South Africa, 13.5% ABV, produced by Simonsig. 2019 vintage, 0.75L bottle. A wood-aged Chenin Blanc that tells the story of the Malan family, pioneers of South African winemaking. Grapes from the oldest vineyard (1986) were harvested at four different stages of ripeness to capture the full spectrum of Chenin Blanc flavors. On the nose, citrus blossoms, dried peach, and a hint of honey and walnuts. Layers of white peach, citrus, and dried fruit coat the palate. Well-structured, with oak notes, crisp acidity, and a long, lingering finish.

These elements are intertwined in this family-owned farm, where the late Frans Malan produced the first bottle of our much-loved Kaapse Vonkel, South Africa's first Méthode Cap Classique made in the classic bottle-fermented style. He is also honoured for co-founding the thriving Stellenbosch Wine Route, a first in its time. Today, his legacy lives on through his sons, Francois and Johan, and grandchildren Francois-Jacques, Christelle and Michael, the 2nd and 3rd Malan generations at Simonsig Wine Estate. Read more

After a year on the fermentation lees, in a combination of 400-litres and 225-litres French oak barrels, the wine presented a delicious layered fruit and rich depth of flavour. |
