Description
What kind of wine it is
San Felice Il Grigio Chianti Classico Riserva is a Tuscan red wine made from Sangiovese grapes. It embodies the authentic style of Chianti Classico, with a full-bodied and austere profile, balanced by a juicy acidity and soft tannins. The bouquet is intense and persistent, with notes of violet, redcurrant, blackberry and tobacco. On the palate, it reveals black cherry, wild berries and spices, with an aromatic texture derived from the wood. The sip culminates in a long and savoury finish, ideal for grilled meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena, one of the most renowned areas of Chianti Classico. The Sangiovese vines grow between 300 and 400 metres above sea level, benefiting from excellent exposure. The limestone subsoil, with white marl, clay and sandstone sands from the Macigno del Chianti, provides a loamy-clay matrix ideal for imparting structure and freshness. San Felice follows strict criteria, limiting yields and selecting only the finest grapes for this label.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place between September and October. Vinification involves alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks and a maceration of about twenty days to extract colour and substance. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for a long period in large Slavonian oak barrels, while a small portion is aged in French oak barrels to integrate spicy notes. A final ageing of six months perfects the taste balance before release to the market.
