Description

What kind of wine it is

Borgo is a still red wine that expresses the essence of Chianti Classico, produced in Tuscany by San Felice. It is created from a refined blend of Sangiovese and Pugnitello, with the grapes processed separately to enhance the varietal characteristics of each. On the nose, it stands out for its marked freshness, enriched by intense fruity aromas and delicate floral notes. The palate is rich and complex, supported by sweet tannins that lead to a persistent, harmonious and pleasantly smooth finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in the historic heart of Chianti, from vineyards located in Castelnuovo Berardenga. The vines grow at an altitude of around four hundred metres, in a microclimate ideal for developing aromatic vibrancy and a solid structure. The soil, of medium texture and rich in stones, is composed of calcareous-marl clays resulting from the disintegration of Alberese and Galestro. This geological composition gives the wine a vibrant energy and impeccable flavour definition.

How it is produced

The grape harvest takes place between the end of September and the first days of October. The process begins with vinification in steel lasting about two weeks, carried out separately for each variety to preserve the integrity of the fruit. After the blend is created, the wine matures for about twelve months in large Slavonian oak barrels, a stage that encourages its evolution while respecting its original vitality. The result is a red wine with soft tannins, characterised by a profound territorial coherence and masterful balance.

History and Curiosities

Borgo San Felice demonstrates a deep commitment to sustainability and respect for nature. In the 2023 vintage, the optimal temperature variations ensured ideal ripening for Sangiovese and Pugnitello. A masterpiece of Tuscan authenticity, celebrated by the prestigious 90 points from Suckling and 92 points from Parker.

Sustainability shapes our philosophy and we have a deep respect for our historic estate. San Felice covers 150 hectares, at an altitude of around 400 metres above sea level, with a perfect combination of soil and micro-climate. In these ideal conditions, we are producing highly acclaimed wines and oils.

Our winemaker, Leonardo Bellaccini, has pioneered many unique practices. Importantly he sees distinctive characteristics in each of San Felice’s undulating slopes and he treats each vine within the vineyard individually. Having identified five macro-areas Leonardo and his team has planted the grape varieties which thrive in the specific geography and soil.
