Description

What type of wine it is

Ritterhof's Alto Adige Gewürztraminer Denominazione di Origine Controllata is a dry white wine that faithfully expresses its varietal profile. Aged in stainless steel, it displays a brilliant straw-yellow colour with greenish highlights in the glass and develops a clear bouquet of rose, geranium and cloves. On the palate, it proves to be structured, characterised by a dense consistency and a distinct spicy imprint. The sip concludes with a long, soft finish with a honeyed closure, ideal for pairing with spicy Asian dishes, shellfish and blue cheeses.

Where it comes from

This white wine originates between Tramin and Kaltern, areas of Alto Adige historically suited to Gewürztraminer. The vineyards, trained using the Guyot system at altitudes between 250 and 490 metres, favour progressive ripening that preserves freshness and olfactory intensity. The roots run deep into gravel, clay and porphyry soils, giving the wine a distinct varietal adherence. The territory benefits from a unique microclimate, where cold Alpine currents meet mild Mediterranean influences.

How it is produced

Production begins with a manual harvest between September and October. The bunches undergo gentle pressing and cold maceration to extract the floral and spicy profiles. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The subsequent maturation in steel, without any time in wood, enhances the natural aromatic clarity of the raw material, delivering a dry, clean and highly distinctive flavour profile.

History and interesting facts

Founded in Caldaro in 1967, the Ritterhof estate produces excellent varietal wines thanks to careful and sustainable agricultural practices. This Alto Adige Gewürztraminer DOC originates between Termeno and Caldaro, in historically suitable terroirs. The grapes are strictly hand-picked and vinified immediately to preserve the absolute purity of the aromas. Celebrated by critics with prestigious awards, such as the Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri and the Veronelli Three Stars, this white wine boasts significant ageing potential of up to five years.
