Description

What kind of wine it is

Ritterhof Gewürztraminer Alto Adige is a dry white wine made from Gewürztraminer grapes grown in Alto Adige. It displays a bright straw yellow colour with luminous green highlights and stands out for its intense and enveloping aromatic profile. On the nose, clear notes of rose and geranium emerge, combined with the pungent nuances of carnation and cloves. The palate is rich and structured, characterised by a spicy flavour and a dense texture. The finish is long, persistent and perfectly smooth, making it ideal for accompanying the intense flavours of Asian dishes, shellfish and blue cheeses.

Where it comes from

This white wine originates from the areas of Termeno and Caldaro, regions in Alto Adige historically renowned for the cultivation of Gewürztraminer. The vineyards, trained using the Guyot system, grow at an altitude between 250 and 490 metres above sea level. This altitude ensures gradual ripening, preserving freshness and aromatic expression. The soil consists of gravel, clay and porphyry, a composition that gives the wine a distinct varietal character and excellent flavour persistence. The Ritterhof winery manages these plots with respect for the agricultural environment, favouring sustainable practices to maintain the territory’s identity intact.

How it is produced

Production begins with a manual harvest, carried out between mid-September and mid-October. The bunches are quickly brought to the winery for gentle pressing, followed by a cold maceration designed to extract the precious floral and spicy bouquet. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a constant temperature of 20°C. The absence of wood ageing preserves the aromatic clarity and natural smoothness of the wine, delivering a pure and elegant expression in the glass that faithfully reflects the characteristics of the raw material.

History and Curiosities

Founded in Caldaro in 1967, the Ritterhof estate produces excellent varietal wines through careful and sustainable methods. The grapes for this Gewürztraminer 2024 are strictly hand-picked and vinified immediately to preserve the integrity and purity of the aromas. Highly acclaimed by critics with prestigious awards such as the Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso and the Tre Stelle Veronelli, this wine expresses the authentic soul of Alto Adige: an exceptional white with excellent ageing potential of up to five years.
