Description
What kind of wine it is
R.H. Coutier Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut is an elegant Traditional Method sparkling wine that enhances the purity of Chardonnay. The glass is distinguished by a fine and remarkably persistent perlage, while the bouquet is defined by aromas of pineapple and fresh citrus. On the palate, it reveals a silky texture, enriched by lively notes of citrus peel. The Extra Brut dosage ensures a clean flavour progression and a prolonged finish, making it ideal for pairing with seafood dishes, shellfish, starters and cheeses.
Where it comes from
The Champagne originates from the vineyards of Ambonnay, in the Montagne de Reims, classified as Grand Cru. The vines sink their roots into typical chalky soils that give the Chardonnay a mineral character and evident structural finesse. R.H. Coutier leads the family winery as an independent winegrower, following sustainable practices oriented towards organic viticulture and adopting a philosophy based on minimal intervention. This rigorous agronomic work allows the most authentic expression of the original terroir to be conveyed in the glass.
How it is produced
The winery follows the strict standards of the Traditional Method, working with Chardonnay with great care. The maturation process is based on slow ageing on the lees for at least three years. This essential period enriches the aromatic profile and imparts great silkiness to the palate. Delicate winemaking practices preserve the vibrancy of the fruit, maintaining a dry and linear flavour profile. The balance between freshness and structure results in a harmonious sip, clean and with long persistence.
History and Curiosities
R.H. Coutier, a historic family of independent winemakers from Ambonnay, encapsulates the essence of the region in this Cuvée Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru. Born from Chardonnay grapes grown on the chalky soils of the Montagne de Reims, this sparkling wine matures for three years on the lees according to the traditional method. The minimal intervention approach, increasingly geared towards organic practices, enhances its expressive purity. Enriched by the rare acquisition of the renowned vineyards of Marie Noelle Ledru, this champagne boasts accolades of excellence such as 93 points from Robert Parker and 92 points from Vinous.

Across 9.3 hectares and 40 unique plots, our vines—averaging nearly four decades in age—tell a story of tradition and innovation. While Pinot Noir reigns supreme in this celebrated region, our estate stands apart: one third of our vineyards are Chardonnay, first planted in 1948 by Henri Coutier. Today, we proudly continue this pioneering spirit, crafting blends of remarkable finesse, balance, and character.
Since 1981, Nathalie and René have guided the estate with passion and precision. In 2014, their son Antoine joined them, carrying forward the family’s vision as the fifth generation of R.H. Coutier Champagne.
Our philosophy is simple yet profound: "as little as possible." By minimizing intervention, we allow the purest expression of our terroir to shine. Every choice in the vineyard and cellar is made with respect for nature, reducing our impact on the living world around us. In 2020, we began our journey toward certified organic viticulture, reaffirming our commitment to sustainability and authenticity.
