Description
What kind of wine is it
Taurasi Riserva Vigna Quintodecimo is a still red wine by Quintodecimo that celebrates the intensity of the Aglianico grape variety. In the glass, it reveals a deep ruby colour and a broad bouquet, characterised by an elegant balance of small black fruits, violet, tobacco and cocoa. On the palate, it is enveloping, supported by a well-defined freshness that harmonises its profound structure. The flavourful and integrated tannins lead the tasting towards an exceptionally long finish, enhanced by notes of sweet spices, making it ideal for pairing with red meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where does it come from
This wine originates in Mirabella Eclano from a two-hectare plot known as Vigna Quintodecimo. The vines thrive on expandable clay soil rich in limestone, an ideal condition for imparting precision and aromatic continuity. The vineyard is situated at four hundred and twenty metres above sea level, with an optimal north-west exposure that encourages the gradual ripening of the grapes. The plants maintain a low yield, a decisive factor in developing a defined tannic texture and excellent gustatory tension.
How is it produced
Production begins with manual harvesting in the second half of October, picking the grapes at full phenolic ripeness. The bunches undergo a meticulous selection before and after destemming, followed by temperature-controlled fermentation for twenty to twenty-five days, aimed at extracting colour and substance. Maturation is completed through careful ageing in new oak barrels for a period ranging from eighteen to twenty-four months, endowing the wine with complexity, harmony and a remarkable capacity for long ageing.
History and Curiosities
The result of Luigi Moio's vision for the estate he founded in 2001, Taurasi Riserva Vigna Quintodecimo represents one of the highest expressions of Campanian Aglianico. The grapes, grown in a single vineyard in Mirabella Eclano, are meticulously hand-picked in October. Thanks to an ageing process of 18-24 months in new oak barriques, the wine acquires a profound harmony and extraordinary longevity, evolving beautifully for decades.
