Description

What kind of wine it is

Bricco Colma is a still red wine from Piedmont, made from the Albarossa grape variety. It stands out for its deep ruby colour with vibrant violet highlights. On the nose, it offers a fresh profile, where black cherry and sweet spices blend with hints of raisin, leather and graphite. On the palate, it is enveloping, skilfully balancing elegance and power. The very lively tannins integrate perfectly with the grape's natural freshness, enhancing pairings with pork dishes, game and mature cheeses. To fully appreciate its complex structure, a two-hour decanting is recommended.

Where it comes from

The wine is produced in Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, a Piedmontese region renowned for imparting great structure. The vines are grown on the right bank of the Tanaro river, in an area ideal for the full expression of Albarossa. Prunotto makes the most of these soil and climate conditions, creating an intense and profound organoleptic profile. The identity of this region ensures extraordinary evolution over time. If stored in optimal conditions, this red boasts an estimated longevity of up to fifteen years, during which it constantly refines and enriches its sensory profile.

How it is produced

The vinification process begins with destemming and crushing of the grapes. This is followed by a maceration of about ten days at a temperature of thirty degrees, necessary to extract colour and phenolic components. The process continues with malolactic fermentation, completed by the end of March, a key step in achieving a pleasant structural softness. The wine then matures for a year of slow ageing, an essential phase to harmonise the intense aromatic freshness with the tannic structure, resulting in a complete, harmonious and vibrant sip.

History and Curiosities

A product of the prestigious Prunotto winery, founded in 1904, this Piemonte D.O.C. expresses the true vocation of the Langhe region. On the banks of the Tanaro river, the 2015 vintage produced an excellent single-variety Albarossa of rare elegance. Under the guidance of oenologist Gianluca Torrengo, the wine is carefully matured for a year before undergoing a precious bottle ageing. This red, with its complex and enveloping character, promises a magnificent evolution over time, offering an extraordinary longevity estimated at up to fifteen years.

The Prunotto estate is located in Alba, the most important city in the Langhe area halfway between Barbaresco and Barolo on the right side of the Tanaro river, on gentle plains surrounded by vineyards in the Langhe and Roero territories. Alba’s surrounding landscapes are captivating. The natural beauty of the gently rolling hills alternate with small sloping valleys covered by rows of meticulously cultivated vineyards.

The Antinori family, charmed by such rich natural beauty, unique vineyards and soils, decided to invest time and energy in this terroir confident that their efforts would make Prunotto what it is today, one of the most important winemaking estates in the Piedmont region.
