Description
Prunotto Nebbiolo d'Alba Occhetti is produced by the Prunotto winery, which today specializes not only in the creation of red, white, and sparkling wines, but also rosés and various spirits. It was founded in 1923 when the winemaker Alfredo Prunotto decided to take over the "Vini delle Langhe" cooperative winery and bring it back to its former glory. With the commitment of Alfredo and his family, wine production began. The winery was later passed on to his friend Beppe Colla, who allowed it to grow and continue producing excellent quality wine. The Nebbiolo vines thrive in the Alba area of Piedmont, on a very particular soil composed partly of marine sands and partly of gravelly and clay-limestone sediments. The Nebbiolo d'Alba Occhetti harvest takes place at the beginning of October. After harvesting, the grapes are taken to the cellar, cleaned, and pressed. Maceration and fermentation take place for approximately 10 days at a controlled temperature of 29°. This is followed by the first aging phase, which takes place in two different types of containers. Part of the product ages in barrels, while the other part in third-use barriques. This phase lasts approximately 12 months. The wine is then bottled, but before being released for sale, it requires a further aging phase. This lasts approximately 4 months in the cellar before being released for sale. Today the Prunotto Nebbiolo d'Alba Occhetti has the DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) label.
