Description
What kind of wine it is
Bellamarsilia by Poggio Argentiera is a still red wine that embodies the authentic essence of Tuscan Sangiovese. Produced in the renowned Morellino di Scansano area, it stands out for its vibrant, deep ruby colour. On the palate, it reveals a powerful and juicy profile, supported by a pleasant freshness and a pronounced savouriness that leads to a long and harmonious finish. The bouquet is complex, characterised by notes of wild berries and cherry, enhanced by hints of chervil, marine scrub aromas and an elegant balsamic touch.
Where it comes from
This interpretation of Sangiovese is born in the heart of the Maremma, in the province of Grosseto, from the Poggio Argentiera vineyards situated at around three hundred and fifty metres above sea level. The vines, cultivated using the spurred cordon system, sink their roots into two different terroirs: the alluvial soils of Baccinello, rich in pebbles and calcareous clays, and the Alberese area, characterised by sand and silt. This patchwork of soils and climates gives the wine an extremely pure fruit, enhancing the organoleptic qualities and the freshness typical of the region.
How it is produced
The production of this Morellino di Scansano begins with a meticulous manual harvest aimed at preserving the integrity of the bunches. In the winery, vinification includes a maceration on the skins for about two weeks to achieve optimal polyphenolic extraction. Fermentation and ageing take place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, a choice that allows the aromatic purity of the grape variety to be maintained. The result is an inviting sip, ideal for accompanying dishes based on pork, game and cheeses.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1997, Poggioargentiera enhances the authenticity of Morellino di Scansano by cultivating its own vineyards at an altitude of 350 metres, on alluvial pebble, sand and silt soils. Under the guidance of oenologist Marco Lamastra, Bellamarsilia 2023 is the result of a meticulous manual harvest in crates, ideal for preserving the integrity and quality of the grape bunches. This extraordinary dedication translates into an excellent wine, capable of achieving prestigious international accolades, including 90 points from James Suckling and 92 points from Vinous.

The 15 acres (six hectares) of vineyards began to produce grapes for a Morellino di Scansano and the new cellar was built. In 2001 the property was enlarged with the acquisition of another farm, located in Baccinello, a hillside zone in the township of Scansano. New vineyards were added to the older but prestigious existing ones, and today the winery owns over 50 acres (21 hectares) of vineyards all in the Morellino di Scansano appellation. Read more
