Description

What kind of wine it is

Podere Sette Bolgheri Superiore Superbo is a Tuscan red wine of great character, the result of a refined blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It presents an intense ruby colour to the eye, a prelude to a lively bouquet of forest fruits and myrtle, enhanced by notes of Mediterranean scrub and subtle toasted hints. On the palate, it expresses vibrant freshness and a solid tannic structure, with a remarkably persistent finish. It is perfect when served between 16 and 18°C, after an hour of decanting, paired with meat dishes, game and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the renowned Bolgheri area, following the principles of organic and ethical viticulture promoted by Podere Sette. The vineyards, oriented from east to west, take root in medium-textured clay soils rich in stones. This privileged microclimate, combined with low yields, allows for the harvest of grapes with extraordinary aromatic concentration. The winery focuses on a fresh and elegant style, aiming to enhance the Bolgheri terroir and the integrity of the grape varieties cultivated in this exceptional area.

How it is produced

The grape harvest is carried out in several stages to ensure the optimal ripeness of each individual plot. The process continues with meticulous batch vinification, involving pump-overs and punch-downs designed to extract the best polyphenolic components. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in new and second-use barrels for about eighteen months. The final blend, the result of careful tastings, gives rise to a red wine that completes its ageing in wood, acquiring an extraordinary capacity for evolution over time.

History and Curiosities

Born from the sustainable philosophy of Podere Sette, Il Superbo 2022 is a prestigious Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC that enhances the harmony between Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Careful vinification by batches and 18 months of ageing in barriques enrich this wine with a fragrant bouquet of wild berries, myrtle and toasted notes. Signed by oenologist Emiliano Falsini, this excellence skilfully combines tradition and innovation, offering the palate a solid tannic structure and a persistent freshness, qualities rewarded with 92 points by James Suckling.

Our winery, located in the heart of Bolgheri, was born from the desire of Marisa Chiappini to keep going on her father’s activity. Continuing the family tradition, today Podere Sette is runned by Marisa’s son, Giuliano. The seven vices are jokingly attributed to Giuliano giving their names to wines we produce: L’Invidio (Envy), Il Superbo (Pride), L’Iracondo (Wrath) and Il Goloso (Gluttony).

Since the beginning Podere Sette shaped its company philosophy to a sustainable ethically running, turning all production in an organic one. The idea is using both innovative and traditional methods in order to offer an alternative Bolgheri way featuring a surprising freshness but without renouncing the classic style of Bolgheri!
