Description
Via Nuova was the name of a small vineyard located near the town of Barolo. Its name derives from the proximity of the road (new, in the last century) that connected Barolo to Novello. Today only one path remains of that road in the middle of the vineyards, which can be walked on foot. For years it has been vinified in purity until the Municipality of Barolo, reorganizing the Additional Geographical Mentions (which came into force in 2010) decided to incorporate it into a larger sub-area, marked by the name Terlo. With the suppression of this tiny Cru, in homage to the tradition of the Assembly, we began to vinify the Barolo Via Nuova with the grapes of Terlo and Liste, of the Municipality of Barolo.

Gigi Pira, legendary exponent of the old production school, created his wines by assembling the grapes from his own plots of Cannubi, San Lorenzo and Via Nuova. He claimed that, just as cows must graze in the best pastures to produce excellent milk, only the best vineyards must be chosen for the wine. But Pira's attachment to tradition did not stop here: he was in fact the last remaining winemaker to to carry out the crushing on foot and the production without the support of any technical means.
Since 1980, continuity has been guaranteed by Chiara Boschis and her parents Franco and Ida, already linked to the Pira family by deep friendship and mutual esteem and representing a historic family of Barolo producers since the 18th century, now in its 9th generation. After graduating, Chiara began to follow her full-time passion for wine and her world, becoming one of the first women to produce Barolo at the end of the 1980s.
Taking care of this "little big house" has brought a breath of fresh air to the cellar and in the style of production. Since 2010, Chiara has been joined by her brother Giorgio, who shares with her a great passion for working in the vineyard and in the cellar, also thanks to his thirty years of experience.
The work on the vines, strictly manual, is carried out with extreme care and respect for the environment, following the dictates of organic farming, for which the company is certified by the 2014 harvest. The production is very limited (about 40,000 bottles per year), coming from grapes produced directly. Read more
