Description

What kind of spirit is this

Liqueur Mandarine & Cognac de Grand Champagne by François Peyrot is an elegant liqueur from Jarnac, France, that blends a structured Cognac Grande Champagne base with the vibrant essence of mandarin. The aromatic profile is built on mandarins macerated in their own juice, delivering a clean, citrus-led nose that perfectly complements the classic notes of the spirit. Presenting a delicate amber hue, the liqueur offers a smooth, well-balanced palate. The finish provides a cohesive citrus and spirit integration at 30% alcohol by volume.

Where it originates

This distinctive liqueur originates from Jarnac in south-west France, crafted by François Peyrot according to a historic recipe dating back to 1956. The foundation is built on spirits from Grande Champagne, providing a solid core designed to carry bright fruit flavours. Through a methodical approach to distillation, the producer ensures the final profile retains its authenticity. This precise balance highlights a deep regional heritage, resulting in a harmonious blend that faithfully reflects the character of this renowned Cognac producing area.

How it is produced

The production process begins with a traditional double Charentaise distillation in copper pot stills, extracting the most refined characteristics from the base spirit. The liquid then matures for at least one year in white oak barrels, a resting phase that builds roundness and develops its subtle amber colour. To create the final blend, the spirit is combined with mandarins macerated in their own juice to impart vibrant aromas. This method ensures a soft, balanced mouthfeel, keeping the fruit and spirit perfectly intertwined.

From this winery
  • Start up year: 1956
Every day, since 1956, the Cognacs of the Maison François Peyrot have been made with the utmost dedication, the fruit of a 'savoir-faire' handed down from father to son over decades. They are the result of passion, hard work and perseverance. The 25 hectares of vines, where the grapes from which the Cognacs are harvested, are located in the town of Jarnac, in the 'Grande Champagne 1er Cru de Cognac', and are cultivated with respect for the environment, favouring quality over quantity. From the vineyard to the cellar, the step is short. Immersed in the half-light and humidity, the essence of wood impregnated with evaporated alcohol almost seems to be the 'perfume of angels': this is how the mystery is fulfilled, with the birth of unique and inimitable Cognacs, whose fragrances are mastered by the infallible skill of the 'maitre de chai', the cellar master.
