Description
What kind of wine it is
Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is a still red wine from Tuscany, a modern and refined expression of the Bolgheri region. This blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot combines a solid structure with a pleasant and smooth drinkability. It presents an intense ruby colour, while on the nose it releases aromas of small red fruits enriched by a lively balsamic note of cypress and eucalyptus. On the palate it is soft, supported by a silky tannic texture that leads to a long and savoury finish, with excellent potential for ageing over time.
Where it comes from
This wine is produced in Bolgheri, along a stretch of the Tuscan coast influenced by the constant proximity of the Mediterranean Sea. The local microclimate benefits from fresh sea breezes that moderate the temperatures, ensuring an ideal balance between grape ripening and the preservation of acidity. The varied soils, characterised by a matrix of sand, clay and gravel, give the wine its typical structural imprint. Produced by Ornellaia from younger vines, it expresses the essence of a renowned coastal terroir, maintaining a consistently vibrant and defined taste energy.
How it is produced
The manual harvest involves a rigorous selection of the bunches, which are destemmed and gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel vats at a controlled temperature, accompanied by careful maceration to encourage extraction. Malolactic fermentation begins in steel and is completed in wooden barrels, where the wine rests to acquire depth and complexity. The maturation process requires the varieties to remain separate for the first year; afterwards, the blend continues to mature together to enhance the fineness of the tannins. A careful final resting period completes its sensory balance.
History and Curiosities
Created in 1997, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is the prestigious second wine of the iconic Bolgheri estate, designed to combine the excellence of a great Tuscan red with immediate drinkability. Produced from younger vines and the result of a rigorous optical selection of the grapes, this signature wine by Axel Heinz marries the renowned elegance of the winery with a vibrant freshness. Aged for fifteen months in oak, it releases a profound harmony of flavour and guarantees exceptional ageing potential.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia was founded in 1981, in a beautiful, unspoiled part of Tuscany. From the outset, the mission was to produce outstanding wines. Since then passion and dedication, coupled with a unique terroir and an extraordinary microclimate, have brought the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia's prestigious labels great success and recognition as one of the most important wineries in the world.
Vision
A little more than 20 years ago, a revelation: the future of Italian viticulture had to take a new enological path, in search of absolute quality. To achieve this goal, the proper place, proper time, and best people were needed. This led to the idea of the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, a place of infinite potential, cultivated with wisdom and experience by its "artists," who seek, with every vintage, a new masterpiece.
Philosophy
Production limited to the course of the year, harvesting by hand only after full ripeness, individual vinification for each vineyard, respect for a unique and precious terroir. These are just some of the choices made by Ornellaia, in a philosophy that has privileged quality from the very beginning. Thanks to women and men who put their arms, soul, head and heart into their work, all year round. And the results can be seen, but above all tasted... Read more
