Description
What kind of wine it is
Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Superiore is a still red wine created from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red colour and a velvety tannic structure that envelops the palate with breadth. On the nose, it reveals notes of ripe, vibrant fruit, enriched by delicate balsamic and toasted nuances. The prolonged finish closes with a pleasant spicy and fresh sensation. Excellent when paired with robust meats and mature cheeses, it fully reveals its identity if left to decant for about an hour.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Bolgheri, along the Mediterranean coast of Tuscany. The Mediterranean climate and constant sea breezes ensure optimal ripening of the grapes, enhancing the aromatic intensity and natural freshness. The heterogeneous soils of the estate contribute to increasing the structural complexity, creating a precise balance between fruit concentration and gustatory tension. Ornellaia manages the vineyards with an approach aimed at respecting the specific characteristics of the territory, tending to each plot individually.
How it is produced
The grapes are harvested by hand and subjected to a double selection, before and after destemming, followed by gentle pressing. To preserve the identity of each plot and variety, separate vinification is carried out. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for about a week, followed by a maceration of around fifteen days. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation and ageing take place in oak barrels. After twelve months of resting at a controlled temperature, blending is carried out, followed by a further six months in wood. A final ageing in bottle consolidates the remarkable longevity of the wine.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia was founded in 1981, in a beautiful, unspoiled part of Tuscany. From the outset, the mission was to produce outstanding wines. Since then passion and dedication, coupled with a unique terroir and an extraordinary microclimate, have brought the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia's prestigious labels great success and recognition as one of the most important wineries in the world.
Vision
A little more than 20 years ago, a revelation: the future of Italian viticulture had to take a new enological path, in search of absolute quality. To achieve this goal, the proper place, proper time, and best people were needed. This led to the idea of the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, a place of infinite potential, cultivated with wisdom and experience by its "artists," who seek, with every vintage, a new masterpiece.
Philosophy
Production limited to the course of the year, harvesting by hand only after full ripeness, individual vinification for each vineyard, respect for a unique and precious terroir. These are just some of the choices made by Ornellaia, in a philosophy that has privileged quality from the very beginning. Thanks to women and men who put their arms, soul, head and heart into their work, all year round. And the results can be seen, but above all tasted... Read more
