Description
What kind of wine it is
Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Superiore is a highly prestigious red wine produced by the Ornellaia winery. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes expresses an intense and vibrant aromatic profile. On the palate, it offers a harmonious balance between structure and freshness, supported by silky tannins that lend elegance to the drinking experience. The finish is long and persistent, enriched by clear balsamic notes and light toasted hints.
Where it comes from
This wine originates along the Tuscan coast, in the heart of the Bolgheri area. The estate's vineyards benefit from a Mediterranean climate, tempered by constant sea breezes that ensure optimal ripening and preserve the aromatic definition of the grapes. The natural diversity of the soils in this coastal area gives the wine a pronounced territorial complexity, allowing it to achieve a perfect balance between aromatic concentration, tension and gustatory persistence.
How it is produced
Production begins with manual harvesting and careful selection of the bunches on a double sorting table, followed by gentle crushing. To enhance the individual territorial expressions, each variety and vineyard parcel is vinified separately. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by precisely managed maceration on the skins. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation occurs mainly in oak barrels, enriching the wine's texture. The process is completed with a long maturation in wood, during which the various lots are blended, giving structure and longevity to the final product.
History and Curiosities
Born in 1985 as the flagship wine of the estate, Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Superiore continues a tradition of excellence that began in 1981 in Castagneto Carducci. The 2023 vintage celebrates the theme of “Vitality” through the exclusive Vendemmia d’Artista project, which combines the vision of oenologist Axel Heinz with a limited edition artist’s label. Highly acclaimed by international critics, this masterful Bordeaux blend embodies the perfect expression of the Tuscan terroir, capable of evolving magnificently over time.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia was founded in 1981, in a beautiful, unspoiled part of Tuscany. From the outset, the mission was to produce outstanding wines. Since then passion and dedication, coupled with a unique terroir and an extraordinary microclimate, have brought the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia's prestigious labels great success and recognition as one of the most important wineries in the world.
Vision
A little more than 20 years ago, a revelation: the future of Italian viticulture had to take a new enological path, in search of absolute quality. To achieve this goal, the proper place, proper time, and best people were needed. This led to the idea of the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, a place of infinite potential, cultivated with wisdom and experience by its "artists," who seek, with every vintage, a new masterpiece.
Philosophy
Production limited to the course of the year, harvesting by hand only after full ripeness, individual vinification for each vineyard, respect for a unique and precious terroir. These are just some of the choices made by Ornellaia, in a philosophy that has privileged quality from the very beginning. Thanks to women and men who put their arms, soul, head and heart into their work, all year round. And the results can be seen, but above all tasted... Read more
