Description

What kind of wine it is

Nodi Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore by Nino Franco is a refined and dry expression of Glera grapes grown in Veneto. This sparkling wine stands out for its fresh and elegant profile, characterised by a fine and persistent perlage. The sparkling process is carried out using the Charmat Method, a technique that preserves the varietal fragrance of the fruit. On the palate, the sip is intense and velvety, supported by lively acidity and a savoury finish, enriched with hints of peach and white-fleshed fruit.

Where it comes from

This Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore originates from the historic Col del Vent vineyard, in the heart of the region. The grapes come from century-old vines rooted in fluvio-glacial soils, which give the wine a particular expressive precision. The connection with the land emerges in an aromatic bouquet where notes of wisteria, rose, pear and lime can be recognised, accompanied by subtle hints of aromatic herbs. To fully enjoy its linear structure, it is recommended to serve it chilled, ideally between 6 and 8 °C, paired with shellfish or vegetable risottos.

How it is produced

Production begins with the destemming and cooling of the Glera must, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks. A prolonged contact with the lees enriches the structure of the wine before the secondary fermentation in autoclave. This process enhances the primary aromas and gives this Extra Brut a crisp and dynamic character. Tasting reveals a silky carbonic texture and ends with a pleasant saline finish, making it perfect to accompany convivial occasions and fish-based dishes.

History and Curiosities

Produced by the historic Nino Franco winery, founded in 1919, this Prosecco Superiore DOCG originates from the exclusive Col del Vent vineyard in Valdobbiadene. Oenologist Primo Franco selects Glera grapes from century-old vines, which preserve ancient clones passed down over time through skilful field grafting. This precious winemaking heritage is enhanced by the Charmat Method, thanks to a slow refermentation in autoclave with prolonged contact on the lees. The 2023 vintage was awarded by Vinous and James Suckling.

Antonio Franco was an honest wine merchant. His son Giovanni, known as Nino, began producing sparkling wines.

But it was the "quiet revolution" of Primo Franco, Antonio’s grandson, that brought the wind of change, opening the doors of the best restaurants in the world to his Valdobbiadene Prosecco wines. Primo bravely crossed the Piave, leaving behind an agricultural world that exclusively evolved around itself.

Primo’s new wave of Prosecco – authorial, intimate and identifying – is the embodiment of his experiences: travels, encounters, meetings with chefs and gastronomes of the Nouvelle Cuisine, studies in enology and passion for architecture, as well as conversations and drinks with friends.

Today, after making history for a century, Nino Franco is the icon of Valdobbiadene Prosecco. While observing the utmost respect for his homeland, he undid – using quality and imagination – all the prejudices against an easy and standardized wine, one considered as an endowment of a rustic and pragmatic culture.
