Description
What kind of wine it is
The Champagne Francs de Pied by Minière F&R expresses the authenticity of Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Crafted using the Traditional Method, it is unfiltered to preserve absolute expressive purity. On the nose, it reveals notes of yellow fruit, citrus, and a delicate toasted nuance, accompanied by a fine and persistent perlage. On the palate, it stands out for its precise and saline attack, supported by a vibrant mineral imprint that elegantly balances the natural generosity of the fruit.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Hermonville terroir, from historic ungrafted vines rooted in sandy soils. The grapes come exclusively from the Les Rosières, Les Fauvagnes, and Les Moineaux plots. The particular soil composition gives the sip a taut and profound structure. In the glass, the union of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier outlines a clear territorial identity, culminating in a complex aromatic profile that evokes elegant undergrowth notes. The strong vocation of these places is reflected in a very clean finish, capable of conveying the true winemaking essence of the area.
How it is produced
The process begins with the blending of the grapes during pressing, separating the different fractions to vinify them individually. Primary fermentation takes place in old oak barrels using indigenous yeasts, while malolactic fermentation is almost always carried out. The components rest in wood before creating the final blend, defined according to the characteristics of the harvest. Finally, the long ageing on the lees imparts structure and depth, making this wine excellent paired with shellfish, sushi, and soft cheeses.
History and Curiosities
The Franc de Pied 2016 by Minière F&R is a prestigious vintage born from the sandy soils of Hermonville, from historic ungrafted plots. The Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, planted between 1962 and 1974, offer an authentic expression of the terroir. Vinification in old oak barrels and five years of ageing on the lees enhance its incredible aromatic richness. Presented without dosage and unfiltered, this Champagne stands out for its vibrant saline attack and a finish of absolute purity.

The estate has grown extensively over the years.
After completing our winemaking studies and several years of professional experience, we took over the estate in 2005 and decided to produce our own wines in oak barrels so as to promote the values of our exceptional heritage.
With almost 8Ha of land, our vineyards are primarily located in Hermonville, whose magnificent, south-east facing hillsides are flooded with sunshine.
The upper hills are covered in sand-loam soil while the lower areas are loam, clay and sand. These well-draining soils contain high levels of minerals which force roots downwards to feed the vines deep within the soil and saturate the sap with mineral elements. Read more
