Description
What kind of wine it is
Masciarelli Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Villa Gemma Riserva is a red wine that deeply embodies the essence of its region. Made from Montepulciano grapes, it displays remarkable ageing potential. It reveals a complex bouquet of Damask rose, blackberry, blackcurrant, tobacco, bitter cocoa and liquorice, enriched by clear mineral notes. On the palate, it is structured and energetic, with a vibrant freshness that perfectly balances the distinctive tannic character, gently fading into a persistent finish with balsamic and herbal nuances.
Where it comes from
It originates in Abruzzo, in the area of San Martino sulla Marrucina, within the Colle Cave vineyards. The vines, situated at four hundred metres above sea level, benefit from an optimal south-eastern exposure. The terroir is characterised by clay and limestone soil, crossed by underground springs that ensure an adequate water supply during the season. The environment, enriched by an adjacent woodland that promotes natural biodiversity, hosts vines carefully managed to maintain low yields, ensuring the grapes have excellent aromatic concentration.
How it is produced
Vinification in steel tanks involves a prolonged maceration at controlled temperature to extract colour and substance with great precision. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in new French oak barrels for almost two years, a crucial step to enrich its intricate spicy texture. A further and lengthy period in the ageing cellars finally allows all the components to blend harmoniously, resulting in a defined and elegant structure, designed to evolve and stand the test of time.
History and Curiosities
