Description
What type of wine it is
Marisa Cuomo's Furore Rosso is a still red wine with the Costa d’Amalfi Controlled Designation of Origin, an authentic expression of Campania. Born from a harmonious blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso, it presents in the glass with a red hue enhanced by bright ruby reflections. Aged in oak barrels, the nose reveals intense hints of ripe cherry and delicate notes of liquorice. On the palate, it offers a smooth flavour and balance, enriched by a pleasant finish of spicy notes.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the municipality of Furore and the surrounding territories, in the heart of the picturesque Amalfi Coast area. The vineyards are cultivated on steep terraces suspended between the rocks and the sea, with roots deep in dolomitic-limestone soils that give each sip a precise structural identity and a vibrant sapidity. The vines are grown using traditional pergola and espalier systems, ensuring optimal sun exposure. In this unique coastal microclimate, the native varieties ripen, developing a rich aromatic profile and a distinct Mediterranean character.
How it is produced
Production begins with a meticulous manual harvest, carried out during the second ten days of October. The bunches arrive intact at the winery, where they are gently destemmed and pressed to begin maceration on the skins for about twelve days. Following malolactic fermentation, essential for softening the flavour profile, the wine continues its maturation process. Ageing takes place for at least six months in second-fill French oak barrels, a technical choice that enriches the structure and stabilises the aromatic balance before final bottling.
History and trivia
Furore Rosso is the emblem of the Marisa Cuomo winery, founded in 1980 by Marisa Cuomo and Andrea Ferraioli. This wine tells the story of the Amalfi Coast's enchantment, originating on dizzying limestone terraces suspended between the rock and the sea. The name pays tribute to the picturesque village of Furore, while the Piedirosso grape is fascinating for its reddish stalks which, before harvesting, curiously resemble a pigeon's feet.
